A commission recently completed of the recipient’s late mother. It was gifted as a 60th birthday present. This is oil on linen and I only had a photo of her face and shoulders to work from so I improvised and tried to further recreate this image of her mother at the beach which she loved. I used black and white and blurred the image to depict a memory but added colour to her swimsuit and glasses to highlight her favourite colour purple and her love of fashion. In addition I added the necklace to express her deeply held faith. I was very happy it was well received.
